12 Minute Athlete
Hi again my dears! Today I am coming at you on a bit of a different topic that I haven’t talked about yet. Fitness. To be quite honest, I love working out. Don’t stop reading just because I love and have a passion for fitness. I promise, this one isn’t your typical post. I find great empowerment and confidence that comes from getting my sweat on. Whether in the gym, on the basketball court, outside or in the comfort of my own home, even the smallest workout cleans up my bad mood and makes me feel more alive and driven. It is important to note that I also workout to keep my body healthy and in good physical condition in the event I need to run away from a perpetrator. I mean, you never know when you need to get the heck away from someone! If my list of positive effects of working out doesn’t instantly make you want to hit the workout mat, then I don’t know what will!
I hear a lot of reasons why people don’t or can’t workout. Some are valid and others are due to a lack of priority, fear, or lack of motivation. Whatever the case, I have a solution for you! It’s a wonderful, easy to use app called 12 Minute Athlete. No, this is not a sponsored post. I have found this fitness app to be a game changer. Whether I have am running short on time, lacking in workout creativity, or just flat out want to be told what do to for the day, this app has got me covered. The method behind the madness is simple, short workouts that trigger different body parts and are meant to get your heart rate high. Have you ever heard of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)? HIIT is made up of short, maximum effort intervals followed by a short rest period, repeated over a period of time, usually 20 minutes or less. That is exactly what this app does. It chooses workouts for you, times them and tells you when to rest or move onto the next exercise. It is brilliant!
I am a huge fan of HIIT. I see the quickest results with this method of workout and at the end of it I find myself more exhausted than I would’ve been otherwise. The key to remember is all out effort. You have to give it your all for each 30 seconds of exercise. It is a killer and you will want to quit, but it is key to remember they are short workouts. The creators of the app have designed it such that you can choose 12 minute or 16 minute workouts. All you do it decide which length of time and what equipment you have available. The options for this are as follows: bodyweight only box, dip bar, jump rope, kettlebell, medicine ball, pullup bar or sandbag. I love that you can choose what to have the app incorporate into each days workout. The best part is, you don’t even need ANY equipment if you don’t have it available! There are a lot of bodyweight only exercises that will leave you feeling exhausted by the end.
Because you do not need equipment and because these are 12-16-minute workouts, you no longer have an excuse not to workout! You can complete an incredible workout and achieve so many positive effects from doing this workout in less amount of time it takes to watch a single episode of Friends. I truly believe anyone can find 12-16 minutes in their busy schedules to get a good workout in. We have to take care of our bodies in order to achieve the highest level of output from ourselves. The better we feel, the better everything in our life will begin to be. I am a firm believer of that. Circumstances may not change, but our outlook will become more positive and we will begin to be happier. I am a firm believer.
